Ministerial declaration signed on the occasion of the International Day against Homophobia, Lesbophobia, Biphobia, Transphobia and Interphobia
15 May Ministers responsible for LGBTIQ policy-making in Lithuania and 31 other European countries sign a declaration on combating homophobia, lesbophobia, biphobia, transphobia and interphobia at the European IDAHOT+ Forum in The Hague.
Governments renewed their strong commitment to equality and respect for the human rights and dignity of every member of society, and their firm determination to fight the discrimination, violence and hatred that LGBTIQ+ people in Europe and beyond face in both the physical and digital spaces.
This year also marks the anniversary of the World Health Organisation's decision, thirty-four years ago, to stop considering homosexuality a mental disorder.
On the occasion of these two anniversaries, European governments that signed the IDAHOT+ Declaration renewed their commitment to human rights at the European IDAHOT+ Forum in The Hague.
According to the Declaration, Europe's strength lies in its diversity and it is important to build a future in which all individuals are free to enjoy their human rights and to participate actively in all spheres of life, irrespective of their sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression or sex characteristics, and where the full participation of all persons in society is beneficial for the whole of Europe.
