Rita Tamašunienė: strengthening cooperation with the Nordic countries in the field of justice is one of Lithuania's key priorities
Minister of Justice Rita Tamašunienė met with Ole Andreas Lindeman, Director of the Nordic Council of Ministers Office in Lithuania, to discuss opportunities for closer cooperation with the Nordic countries in the field of justice.
“This year marks 35 years since the beginning of cooperation between the Baltic and Nordic countries after the establishment of the Nordic Council of Ministers Office in Lithuania. This partnership is extremely important to us, so we hope that it will only grow stronger in the future,” emphasised the Minister of Justice.
During the meeting, the Minister stressed that consistent and full support for Ukraine remains one of Lithuania's top priorities at both the national and international levels. “The Government has approved the implementation plan of the 20th Government Programme for the next three years where international commitments and, in particular, unconditional support for Ukraine, have been established as the fundamental principles of the national policy,” emphasised Ms Tamašunienė.
The Minister also noted that experts of the Lithuanian justice system, including the State Patent Bureau and the Probation Service of Lithuania, are consistently sharing their best practice with Ukrainian authorities and are ready to continue and expand this cooperation in line with the needs of Ukraine. In a broader context, Lithuania implements large-scale projects aimed at the successful integration of Ukraine into the European Union. The main initiative is EU2Ukraine, administered by the Central Project Management Agency. As Danish and Swedish partners have joined the project, even greater practical benefits are expected in the process of Ukraine’s integration into Europe.
The meeting also discussed the preparedness of Lithuania for its upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which intends to focus on geopolitical challenges, strengthening the security and defence of the European Union, comprehensive support for Ukraine and adequate defence funding, increasing competitiveness, development, and strengthening internal security.
