Vice-Minister of Justice Rytis Jokubauskas: The EU must pool its efforts more effectively in the fight against organised crime
At the EU Council of Ministers of Justice, Vice-Minister of Justice Rytis Jokubauskas emphasised the importance of coordinated efforts by institutions in combating organised crime at the EU level.
According to the Vice-Minister, the fight against organised crime is a long-term priority for Lithuania. Our country has achieved significant reduction of organised crime through effective activities of pre-trial investigation and criminal intelligence institutions.
The Ministers of Justice of the EU also discussed initiatives to reduce the excessive administrative burden associated with the General Data Protection Regulation.
Rytis Jokubauskas noted that GDPR requirements, especially for small organisations, are often too strict and difficult to implement, and it is important in this area to take into account the nature of the personal data being processed and the level of risk involved when considering the possibility of differentiating requirements according to risk level.
The EU ministers discussed the issues of violence against children, stressed the necessity of more effective measures in preventing all forms of violence against children.
The meeting of the Council of Ministers of Justice was held in Copenhagen (Kingdom of Denmark), which took over the EU Council Presidency from Poland in July.
